If I have found favor

We may easily overlook the profound truth that Jesus walked among us, long before his miraculous birth of a virgin 2,000 years ago. He is not just a figure in history; He is God, eternal and ever-present, always having existed John 1:1-3. It was not merely the Father who crafted the universe; it was Jesus who wielded that power Col 1:16. In a stunning revelation, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to His glorious Son John 5:22. We often skim past the powerful declaration where the Father proclaims His Son to be God Himself Heb 1:8. In fact, there are over 12 verses in the Gospel of John that resolutely affirm Jesus is God. With that astonishing truth firmly in our hearts, let’s dive into the topic of this post!

  • The Lord God walked in the garden with Adam and Eve Gen 3:8
  • Jacob wrestled with God Gen 32:24-30
  • The Lord walks with Abraham Gen Ch17
  • Abraham has dinner with the Lord Gen Ch18

In the 17th chapter of Genesis, God appears and instructs Abraham to walk before him and be blameless Gen 17:1. Abraham was 99 at this time and Ishmael would have been 13. During this time of “walking with God” our loving creator assures him that he will keep his promise of having a son with his wife, Sarah, and confirms the future promised land of Israel once again.

Can you imagine actually walking with our creator, the God that breathed out stars Psalm 33:6 ? Not only that, but God even recognized Abraham as a “friend” Isai 41:8, 2 Chron 20:7. God wants a relationship!

Now, what happened in Genesis Ch 18, really caught my attention. I hope this revelation touches your heart like it did for me. Please take a moment to read this scripture and I will point out some amazing truths that perhaps you may have missed before.

1 The Lord appeared to Abraham near the great trees of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance to his tent in the heat of the day. 2 Abraham looked up and saw three men standing nearby. When he saw them, he hurried from the entrance of his tent to meet them and bowed low to the ground.
3 He said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my lord, do not pass your servant by. 4 Let a little water be brought, and then you may all wash your feet and rest under this tree. 5 Let me get you something to eat, so you can be refreshed and then go on your way—now that you have come to your servant.”
“Very well,” they answered, “do as you say.”
6 So Abraham hurried into the tent to Sarah. “Quick,” he said, “get three seahs of the finest flour and knead it and bake some bread.” 7 Then he ran to the herd and selected a choice, tender calf and gave it to a servant, who hurried to prepare it. 8 He then brought some curds and milk and the calf that had been prepared, and set these before them. While they ate, he stood near them under a tree.

I want to highlight what Abraham said to the Lord after he said, “If I have found favor in your eyes, my Lord.” He simply asked, “Please stay, wash your feet, and have a meal with me.”

Abraham could have asked for more land, a bigger home, better travel, or even financial blessings that would elevate his status among his peers. Yet, instead of pursuing material wealth or earthly comforts, he prioritized his relationship with the Lord above all else. He understood that true fulfillment could not be found in possessions but rather in a deep, personal connection with the Lord. Out of all the things he could have asked for, he chose to humbly petition the Lord to stay a bit longer, yearning for more time to bask in the presence of his Creator, to learn, to grow, and to strengthen their bond. Abraham knew that such moments were precious and that the spiritual riches he amassed through faith and intimacy with God far outweighed any tangible earthly gains he might acquire.

Also, among the three men, Abraham recognized which one was the Lord, because he already knew Him well through years of deep, personal experience. This was an on-going relationship, one that had grown richer and more profound over time. There is something extraordinarily special about being in the presence of Jesus; it envelops you in peace and fills your heart with joy beyond measure. He is perfect, embodying all that is good and pure. He is Love itself, offering compassion and understanding in abundance, and He is merciful, always ready to forgive and heal our deepest wounds. In His presence, we can’t seem to get enough of Him; it draws us closer, igniting a longing in our souls to know Him even more intimately and to share that love with others, transforming our lives in incredible ways.

There is something deeper in our walk with Christ that is more than just attending church or blessing our food. There is something intimate and holy about a true relationship. I do not say this to diminish the importance of attending church by any means Heb 10:25. I can truly say, there is a true tangible presence of the Lord, and there is hope, joy and peace in his presence Rom 15:13

There is a reason David said, “As deer pants for streams of water, so, my soul pants for you God” Psalm 42:1. There is so much more than a quick good night prayer. David also said, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to inquire in his temple” Psalm 27:4.

My precious saints, there is so much more than going through the motions of church, going home and then starting life again on Monday. There is something profoundly transformative about someone that spends their life day by day walking with Jesus. They look different, act different, and experience miracles that can only be explained by their unwavering faith. Most importantly, they will walk with tremendous love that radiates from their very being (because of The Holy Spirit), touching the lives of those around them. Love is key! As you walk with Jesus, He will teach you not only how to love deeply and genuinely but also how to perceive others with compassion and understanding. You will begin to judge less and love more, embracing the mercy and grace that Christ exemplifies. This journey with Him will not only change you; it will inspire others to seek that same path, creating a ripple effect of grace and kindness. Embrace this extraordinary adventure and let your heart be a vessel of His love.

I want to ignite a challenge within you today! Abraham understood that his moments with the Lord were infinitely more precious than merely expanding his territory. It’s time to elevate your Christian journey! Challenge yourself to step beyond your comfort zone. Fill your home and car with uplifting worship music, drowning out the distractions of TV and social media. Carve out sacred moments to be alone with Jesus. Engage in heartfelt conversations with Him throughout your day, and anticipate His responses—trust me, He will speak back! Open your heart to learn how to discern His voice John 10:27. I assure you, if you earnestly seek Him with the entirety of your being, you will undoubtedly discover Him Jer 29:13.

God will give you a new set of eyes. Instead of looking down on the drug user, you look at them with love and compassion. The family you told yourself you would never forgive; you now find yourself forgiving. You begin to truly understand His mercy and grace. You never know, perhaps one day you will say

Lord, If I have found favor in your sight….. stay!
